Biography

Jyoti gained a BA (Hons) in Printed Textiles from Manchester Metropolitan University and went on to have a long career as a print and embroidery designer for womenswear fashion, selling her work to global fashion brands, first in studios in London and then freelance from Edinburgh. She also developed a range of hand screen-printed interior accessories which were sold in Fortnum and Mason.

Jyoti returned to education in 2019 with the aim to challenge her creative practice, develop her technical and critical skills, and explore new directions. She graduated from the MFA in Performance Costume at Edinburgh College of Art with a distinction in June 2021. On the course her skills in textiles, pattern and colour and long-standing love of film, theatre, dance, period costume and literature were combined and developed.

Since graduating she works from her studio at Summerhall, and has undertaken commissions to create textiles for costumes for the TV industry and tutored on the BA (Hons) Performance Costume course at ECA. In early February 2023 she received a VACMA grant from Creative Scotland to attend Edinburgh Printmakers Workshop and develop her technical skills in screen-printing on paper.

Jyoti is available for commissions and collaborative projects within the fields of textile and costume design.
