Measure for Measure

MFA Performance Costume, Edinburgh College of Art, graduate project May 2021.

I adapted Measure For Measure by William Shakespeare, setting it in 1910s Vienna with a cabaret style performance staged in a Speigeltent to represent The Globe and a Viennese coffee house. The performance will have an atmosphere that is irreverent, bawdy and ironic. The distinctive artistic and design movements of Vienna in the mid 1900s will enhance the cabaret aesthetic, and effectively communicate my characters positions of vibrancy, liberty and provocation on the one hand, and severity and restraint on the other.

Below are my costumes for the characters of Julietta and Kate Keepdown, and a selection of illustrations of other characters. For the full project click on the Issuu link above.
